Course Objective:
- To provide the participant with a common understanding of WHS principles and practices used on Construction and Civil sites in Australia.

CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
Course Content:
- Identify health and safety legislative requirements of construction work
- Identify construction hazards and risk control measures
- Identify health and safety communication and reporting processes
- Identify incident and emergency response procedures
Assessment:
- Written/Theory Assessment
- Practical Demonstration of Correctly Fitting of PPE
- Identify and Orally Explain/Report in English

Course Prerequisites:
- Numeracy skills to locate and recognise numbers commonly used in safety signs
- Oral communication skills to ask questions to clarify instructions, listen to instructions to identify key safety information and tell another person about a construction problem or hazard
- Reading skills to follow simple pictorial safety instructions and follow simple safety instructions that are written in English
- Problem solving skills to select risk control measures
- Written skills to complete a basic form

- No interpreters will be allowed at this stage for this course
- Photographic identification is required to attend this course
- Personal Protective Equipment to be worn is fully enclosed footwear
- All students will need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to receive their certificates and or cards. About the CITB:
The CITB is a whole-of-industry led organisation that provides support to attract, train and retain South Australian building and construction workers by providing leadership in training and skills development.

Short Course Training:
The objective of CITB’s Short Course Training program is to raise the level of skill in the construction industry workforce by engaging Eligible Persons in training and skill development activities. CITB facilitates training opportunities and endeavours to ensure that CITB funded training meets both quality standards and industry requirements.
Each financial year, Eligible Persons with an approved CITB number can obtain up to $3,000 of training subsidies off any CITB endorsed short course, with a CITB endorsed training provider.
To obtain the short course subsidises, an approved CITB number must be provided to the training provider upon enrolment.
